There are plenty of so-called fly tying bags and boxes with messy lift-out compartments, and DIY stores have a selection of cheap plastic jobs with cantilever trays that soon fall apart. If these are good enough for you, fine. But if you want a real cabinet – one specifically designed and made by a fly tyer for fly tyers at a sensible price – take a look at the ‘Companion’.

PRESS REVIEWS...‘TROUT and SALMON’“With their collection of fur and feathers resembling the results of an explosion in a carpet factory, most fly dressers find that putting their hands on a particular material presents something of a challenge. This one – made by Peter Dagger – is well constructed and inexpensive. It comes with a variety of drawers plus a pocket for capes, etc.” ‘FLY-FISHING AND FLY-TYING’“Convenient storage and attractive enough to find favour with the non fly-tying members of the family. Solidly made with dovetailed corners, mahogany coloured varnish, brass fittings and a good solid piano hinge …”

The ‘Companion’ was born of sheer frustration when the maker, himself a fly fisherman and fly tyer, tried to buy a cabinet but found that all the market could offer was boxes and bags which he considered totally unsuitable or too expensive – or both! The ‘Companion’ is 21" wide, 14" high and 7" deep. |
